Encaustic

The encaustic technique has a much longer tradition than oil painting. It experienced its heyday in the art of Greek-Roman antiquity. In the artists’ imagination, their own materialized thoughts were burned imperishably onto the painting surface with fire.

The word encaustic has also been used for more than two and a half millennia and is derived from the Greek word enkauston, burned in, which in turn is derived from enkaio, to burn in.

I work in the Mixed media encaustic technique. This means that here, too, I mix different mediums to make the work multi-layered, not only by wax medium, but also by adding papers, potassium, wax crayons, alcohol ink, and other things.
These methods allow for depth and interesting effects.
I would even call this technique meditative, because it is so soothing when you apply one layer of medium, burn through, then another layer, and so on until you get the result you want.
